Behinderten-Sportverband Berlin (BSB) is a non-profit sports association that promotes sports for persons with disabilities. Its members are sports clubs that pursue the same goal. It currently has over 200 members serving around 40,000 residents of Berlin. Their activities largely relate to sports for health purposes, but they also offer popular sports activities for persons with disabilities as well as professional Paralympic sports.
The inclusion-related activities of BSB in the field of popular sports are offered through its advisory programme “Inklusion durch Sport”. With this service, BSB aims to support its member clubs’ inclusion activities and help break down mental and infrastructural barriers to more inclusion. BSB also assists its members in becoming good fundraisers, so that they can acquire the funds they need to implement their projects faster after 2015, too.
Our member clubs, our active athletes, our coaches and their families and friends. The aim is inclusion through exercise and participation; our target group includes citizens with an interest in sports.
Expertise in the field of inclusion:
One of our main activities is providing training to our coaches and placing them in clubs. We also organise large-scale Paralympic events. Under our campaign, we support our member clubs in developing, planning and implementing inclusive sports projects.
However, we believe that there is much more to inclusion than this, so we also provide training to refugees.
BSB maintains partnerships and close relationships with mainstream and special needs schools and clubs. Supporting inclusion through sports and inclusion in sports is a priority theme for BSB.
