The "Inklusiv unterwegs” network – an initiative for inclusive holidays for children and adolescents in NRW

Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Applied Social Sciences, non-formal education research group

Ubierring 48 a, 50678 Köln

This project is coordinated and supported by a research team working in the field of non-formal education at Cologne University of Applied Sciences. It is funded by the Ministry of Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport of North Rhine-Westphalia. The project term is three years (2014 to autumn 2017).

The project serves to build a network for providers of holidays for children and young people in North Rhine-Westphalia. The idea is to encourage more inclusive forms of travel and in turn, to enable children and young people with disabilities to take part in all forms of educational travel for this target group. The network brings together experts and multipliers from the youth work community, disability organisations, representatives of associations, hotels and hostels, and tour operators. They meet twice a year to discuss current needs and developments, conduct a professional dialogue and establish contact with other organisations. The project has also set up an expert portal that advises providers of child and youth travel on offering more inclusive options. This portal is coordinated by transfer e.V. in cooperation with Freizeit ohne Barrieren e.V., both non-profit organisations.
